Unleash Your Inner Power: Embracing Yoga, Capricorn Season, and the New Moon, 9°43'

As the year draws to a close, we're welcomed by the transformative energies of Capricorn season, peaking with a New Moon on 30th December 2024, at 22:27 GMT. This celestial occurrence is an excellent moment to harness Capricorn's ambitious spirit and set clear intentions for the coming year.

In this blog post, we'll explore how to align your yoga practice with this powerful phase, enhancing your motivation and facilitating personal growth and transformation.

The Power of Capricorn Season

Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is renowned for its disciplined energy, proper use of time and practical mindset. The sea goat, symbolic of ambition and responsibility, encourages us to set and pursue long-term desires. As the mountain goat reaches the summit, it turns back to guide us step by step to reach our potential. During Capricorn season, we are called to introspect and connect to the proverbial mountain that inspires our spirit and inner mountain goat. This time of year allows us to assess if we are still on the right spiritual mountain for our calling and not someone else's!

Grounding ourselves during this earth-focused season helps align our body and mind, enabling a stronger connection to the Capricorns' energy and enhancing our intentions as we shift into the new lunar cycle and the new calendar year. For this reason:

Connect with Nature

Capricorn is an earth sign that encourages a reconnection with nature. Spend time outdoors, taking walks and enjoying being away from your desk.

Nature's energy supports grounding and amplifies your manifestations. Embrace tranquillity and observe nature's rhythms, allowing these insights to guide your journey.

Celebrate the New Moon Ritual

New Moons are synonymous with new beginnings. This particular New Moon offers a perfect chance to focus on practical strategies for turning your goals into reality.

Set Intentions

With the New Moon approaching on 30th December, consider harnessing this energy to set your intentions. Reflect on what you want to bring into your life in the upcoming year.

Create a Sacred Space

Designate a quiet area in your home for yoga and rituals. Fill this space with crystals, plants, or candles—objects that resonate with your goals.

Consider lighting a candle before you start practising. Focus on your breath as you observe the flame. Imagine the intentions you wish to manifest for 2025 unfolding before you.

Embrace the Capricorns' Energies with Your Yoga Practice

Yoga is more than just physical exercise; it's a complete practice that engages our mind, body, and spirit. Practicing yoga during Capricorn season invites us to embody perseverance and discipline. I love to practice an Iyengar-inspired sequence with an eye for alignment and the strength and flexibility to hold the postures for at least 2-3 minutes.

Each of the standings poses, like Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) and Warrior I II III (Virabhadrasana I II III), taps into the inner power and Capricorn flavour that can be woven into your mindset and daily activity. Step by step, enjoy the experience of more strength, focus and flexibility as each weakness becomes a strength and intentions are realised and enjoyed.

Ground Yourself

Start your practice with grounding postures like Mountain Pose (Tadasana) or Child's Pose (Balasana). These poses help centre your thoughts, making them ideal for finding balance. For example, individuals who practice Tadasana regularly report feeling more stable and focused throughout their day, with 75% noting an increase in their ability to handle stress.

Take a few moments daily to visualise your intentions while maintaining deep breaths in each pose. With consistency, you can develop a solid foundation from which to express your inner power.

In addition to the standing poses, Incorporate forward folds and hip-openers like Forward Bend (Uttanasana) and Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) into your sessions. These poses signify letting go of old habits to embrace fresh starts. For instance, research shows that performing hip-openers like Pigeon Pose can enhance emotional release, making it easier to set intentions.

Find Balance and Release Expectations

While Capricorns are often seen as serious and focused, balancing ambition with joy during this season is essential.

Integrate Play into Your Practice

Incorporate playful poses like Wheel Pose (Chakrasana) or Crow Pose (Bakasana) to introduce a sense of fun into your yoga practice. Allow yourself the freedom to enjoy learning instead of just chasing outcomes.

Letting go of the need for control is vital to your journey. Yoga is about living in the moment, so remember to approach your practice with an open heart and a willing spirit.

Journal Your Intentions

After your yoga session, take time to journal. Write down your intentions for the New Moon, defining your personal and professional goals.

Being specific helps materialise your desires, providing a more precise map. Studies have shown that people who write down their goals are 42% more likely to accomplish them than those who do not.

Integrate Capricorn Learning Principles into Daily Life

In the lead-up to and following the New Moon, weave Capricorn's lessons into your daily routine. Here are a couple of practices to consider:

  1. Joining Jo Rooks' workshop on 11th January, 2-4 PM at Serenity Pace, London SW18 - Create a Vision Board: Collect images and words that symbolise your goals. Place your vision board somewhere visible for daily inspiration.

  2. Establish a Routine: Dedicate time each day to yoga, meditation, and reflection. Consistency is crucial for success, so ensure that you prioritise these practices.

Remember, Capricorn teaches us the value of resilience and patience. Progress may take time; what's vital is the patience you cultivate as you stop to see how far you have come and not get lost in the overdoing. Remember, the first Yama, Ahimsa, is to be kind to yourself, also translated as non-violence in your thoughts, words, and deeds.

Embrace New Beginnings

Celebrating the New Moon and Capricorn season is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and set meaningful intentions for the year ahead.

Integrating yoga into this potent time aligns your mind, body, and spirit, unlocking your inner power. With grounding postures, intentional practices, and connections to nature, you can fully embrace your essence and the ambition that Capricorn embodies.

May this Capricorn season inspire you to cultivate discipline, patience and focus—allowing your true potential to shine as you enter 2025 with renewed energy and confidence.
